January in Review

Well, I think I got off to a pretty good start this year. There are a number of different metrics I could track to see how well I met my goals, but I've decided to keep it simple and report the percentage of meals I ate that originated in my kitchen. My reasoning is pretty simple: since well over 90% of the groceries I buy are from sources that meet all or most of my sustainable, natural, humane, etc. requirements, and I can reasonably surmise that most of the restaurants I patronize do not meet those standards, then the more often I eat food from home the more often I'm eating "good" food. Granted I do occasionally buy groceries that don't meet my standards and eat at restaurants that do, but generally speaking those are the exceptions that prove the rule.

Personal Performance in January

  • 66.6667% (2/3) of my meals this month originated in my kitchen.
